How did KTV operators play songs before hard drives? In the early days, kids in grade 5 or 6 went to a KTV parlor and asked the staff via intercom to manually switch cassette tapes. As hard drives became popular, KTV operators began to build servers that connected to their media boxes, allowing users to play songs through computer software. As the quality of audio and video continued to improve, storage capacity increased too.
